The sea in Campania

A sea to discover

With its almost 500 km of coastline, Campania can meet the most diverse needs of those who want to spend a few days at sea.

To the north, enclosed between the border with Lazio and the Phlegraean Fields in the Neapolitan area, is the Domitio Coast. Characterized by wide and sandy beaches with shallow waters, often bordered by pine forests, it is ideal for families thanks to the numerous bathing establishments.

It follows the Neapolitan coast that from Cuma winds along the entire Gulf of Naples to Castellammare di Stabia, beyond Vesuvius. Although there are also bathing areas within the metropolitan area of Naples, the most attractive areas are located to the north, in the stretch between Capo Miseno and Marechiaro, and to the south in the municipality of Castellamare.

Beyond the latter begins the famous Sorrento Peninsula which, after Punta Campanella, becomes the Amalfi Coast closed to the south by Vietri sul Mare. Characterized by rocky coasts overlooking the sea, small pebble bays sometimes reachable only from the sea and the angular profile of the Lattari mountains, emanate an irresistible picturesque glamorous charm that make it one of the most famous tourist spots in Italy.

Continuing south, from Salerno to Capaccio-Paestum, extends the plain of the river Sele. Like the Domitio coast, this part of the Campania coast is characterized by wide sandy beaches with shallow water. Here too there are numerous bathing establishments that make it a place suitable for quiet family tourism.

Further south is the Cilento coast that extends from Agropoli to Sapri, the last municipality of Campania before Basilicata. An integral part of the wonderful National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano, the Cilento coast is characterized by the variety of landscapes and clear and crystalline waters. Suitable for family tourism for the tranquility of its resorts, it does not fail to offer various possibilities for water sports and places with a lively nightlife such as Palinuro and Agropoli.

Finally, in the seaside landscape of Campania, the islands of the Gulf of Naples deserve a prominent place: Ischia, Capri and Procida. Capri is the most fashionable island, devoted to elite tourism and a destination for VIPs and celebrities from all over the world. Ischia, the largest, is more popular, has more beaches and is characterized by the presence of particularly valuable thermal waters. Finally, Procida still knows how to excite with the charm of its small seaside villages thanks to which it still retains a genuine and not artificial atmosphere.
